What is a mole?

A common mole, or naevi, is a coloured spot on the skin that when cells called grow in . Although common moles may be at birth, they usually appear later in childhood and increase during teenage years – most adults usually have 10 and 40 on their body. During pregnancy, moles often get darker and they can fade away from around the age of 50.

Cosmetic or benign mole removal

Methods of mole removal

Laser removal


Most for small, raised moles in areas where scarring is a priority, such as the face. Laser mole removal uses light energy to break down the pigment within the mole.

How to best look after your moles

Sun exposure is the main cause of skin cancers, so your skin from the sun is crucial for skin health. Experts advise to avoid direct sun exposure between 11am and 3pm on sunny days, and to wear clothing in addition to using .
